Scholarly Concentrations

To all faculty,

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

As you may have heard, an exciting core element of curriculum revitalization here at Stanford will be the initiation of required scholarly concentrations for all medical students. These concentrations--which are expected to be offered to students who matriculate in 2003--will bridge departments and disciplines and act as a unifying educational initiative for the school as a whole. We now invite you to work with your colleagues to develop such a concentration for our students. We hope these concentrations will cover the gamut from clinical research, to molecular medicine, to bioengineering, to medical humanities and encourage you to think creatively in developing such programs.

The RFP for the scholarly concentration, with details about the program and proposal deadlines, is available on this site. We are also making available here the sample proposals develped earlier by some members of the Scholarly Tracks Committee (see "Draft Docouments," right). These drafts are being provided as general examples of the content expected in proposals.

We believe the scholarly concentrations can serve as a showpiece for the unique assets of combined education and research at Stanford. We hope you will join us in developing this program and look forward to seeing your proposals.
